A Bengaluru court granted bail to Nikita Singhania, her mother Nisha Singhania, and her brother Anurag Singhania. Police accused them of abetting the suicide of Atul Subhash, an automobile executive, who died last month. Subhash left a 24-page suicide note and a video, alleging harassment and a troubled marriage.
The accused will leave Bengaluru Central Prison within two days after completing formalities.
Vinay Singh, the lawyer for Subhash’s family, said they will challenge the decision in the Karnataka High Court. He explained that the court granted bail based on technical arguments and the accused’s rights. Singh added they will study the order and decide to file an appeal.
Subhash’s brother, Bikas Kumar, filed a police complaint against the accused. He alleged they demanded ₹3 crore for a divorce settlement. Kumar claimed they harassed Subhash in court, saying he must pay or commit suicide.
The police registered an FIR under Sections 108 and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS) on December 9.
Subhash’s father, Pavan Kumar Modi, expressed fears for his grandson’s safety. He accused Nikita of using the child to extort money and said she could harm the boy. Modi revealed they have approached the Supreme Court to seek custody.
Nikita’s family countered these claims, alleging Subhash demanded a large dowry, which caused her father’s death.
Counsel for Subhash’s family argued the suicide note and video prove the accusations. They urged the court to prioritize these as key evidence in the case.
