In a significant operation targeting illegal migration, Mumbai Police arrested 13 Bangladeshi nationals as part of a special operation aimed at cracking down on unauthorized migrants. The operation was conducted in the Ghatkopar suburb and is part of a larger effort by the authorities to tackle the issue of illegal immigration across the city and state.
The arrested individuals were found to have entered India without proper documentation and had been residing in the country illegally. Police officials confirmed that the suspects were detained following a thorough investigation into their backgrounds.
Mumbai Police Arrest Bangladeshi
The arrested Bangladeshi nationals have been presented before the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO), where deportation proceedings are set to take place. Authorities have reiterated the importance of adhering to the Foreigners Act, which plays a critical role in maintaining effective monitoring and reporting of foreign nationals living in India.
The police department continues to focus on identifying and taking action against illegal migrants across the district, with increased vigilance in the coming days.
ATS Joins Mumbai Police In Statewide Raids
On Friday, the Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS), in collaboration with local police, carried out a series of coordinated raids targeting illegal Bangladeshi nationals in multiple cities, including Thane, Navi Mumbai, and Solapur.
During the operation, 13 individuals, comprising seven men and six women, were arrested.
Investigations revealed that these individuals had used forged documents to acquire Indian identification, including Aadhaar cards, which are meant exclusively for legitimate citizens.
Legal Action and Further Investigations
Following the raids, authorities registered three cases under the Foreign Nationals Act, 1946; the Passport (Entry into India) Act, 1950; and the Passport Act, 1967. These legal actions were taken in response to the illegal entry and forged documentation discovered during the raids.
Earlier this week, similar operations in Mumbai, Thane, Navi Mumbai, and Nashik led to the filing of seven cases and the arrest of 17 other Bangladeshi nationals. The ATS and local police teams are now interrogating the detained individuals, seeking to uncover the methods used to forge documents and facilitate their illegal entry into India.
