Union Home Minister Amit Shah will preside over a high-level strategy session in New Delhi on Wednesday to finalise the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) approach for the upcoming Bihar Assembly elections.
The meeting underscores the party’s intent to strengthen its position in the politically significant state.
The review will bring together prominent BJP figures, including state party president Dilip Jaiswal, Bihar’s Deputy Chief Ministers Samrat Choudhary and Vijay Kumar Sinha, as well as Union Ministers Giriraj Singh and Nityanand Rai.
The discussions will revolve around recent internal survey reports, grassroots feedback, and the challenge of anti-incumbency faced by several MLAs.
A major point on the agenda is the sensitive issue of seat-sharing within the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), which remains crucial for ensuring a cohesive campaign strategy.
The timing of the session follows the conclusion of the Opposition-led Voter Adhikar Yatra, jointly spearheaded by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and RJD’s Tejashwi Yadav.
The yatra, which ended in Patna on September 1, accused the Election Commission of manipulating Bihar’s voter rolls, allegedly disenfranchising marginalised communities.
The INDIA Bloc has sought to use this campaign to mobilise public sentiment against the NDA government, adding pressure on the BJP to refine its electoral messaging.
Amid these developments, the BJP has called for a statewide bandh on 4 September in response to alleged derogatory remarks against Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s mother during a rally in Darbhanga.
BJP workers will observe the bandh from 7 AM to 12 noon, while essential services and railways will remain exempt.
The BJP Mahila Morcha will lead the protest, marking the first time a women’s wing has spearheaded such an agitation in Bihar.
NDA allies, including the Janata Dal (United), have pledged full support. The shutdown will disrupt traffic, but authorities expect normal movement to resume after midday.
With Amit Shah at the helm of the strategy session, the BJP is seeking to consolidate its campaign structure, address voter concerns, and counter Opposition narratives. Wednesday’s meeting will shape the NDA’s approach in the weeks ahead and set the tone for one of the most closely watched state elections.
