Manoj Muntashir Shares Emotional Experience Of Recording PM Modi’s Letter To His Mother

Lyricist and poet Manoj Muntashir has recalled the deeply moving experience of recording a 17-page letter written by Prime Minister Narendra Modi following the passing of his mother, Heeraben Modi, in December 2022.

The letter, later published online, captured the Prime Minister’s personal grief and the profound influence of his mother on his life.

Posting on social media platform X, Muntashir said he could barely hold back tears while recording the letter.

“Every line was soaked in love, gratitude and memories. I got the opportunity to record them in my voice. While recording it, I was unable to hold back my tears,” he wrote.

Muntashir described Heeraben not only as Modi’s mother but also as his ‘guide, strength and first teacher’, noting how the words revealed the depth of their bond.

Recording the Prime Minister’s Memories

In a video shared on Twitter, Muntashir recounted receiving a call asking him to lend his voice to the Prime Minister’s letter.

“I agreed immediately, but the emotions it carried caught me unprepared,” he said.

Muntashir explained that reading even a few lines at a time left him overwhelmed, adding that during the recording process, he felt as though he had lost his own mother.

Muntashir’s recollections come at a time of heightened political tensions in Bihar, where remarks allegedly made against Modi’s late mother during the Opposition-led Voter Adhikar Yatra have drawn strong criticism.

Without naming the incident directly, the lyricist posted, “Any attempt to insult that sacred bond between a mother and son is sad beyond words!”

Heeraben Modi passed away on December 30, 2022, at the age of 99 in Ahmedabad. She spent most of her life in Raysan village near Gandhinagar, and the Prime Minister frequently visited her during his trips to Gujarat.

The letter, described by Muntashir as ‘seventeen pages of compassion’, provided the public with a rare glimpse into PM Modi’s private world and his enduring connection with his mother.
