HM Amit Shah pays tribute to the popular leader, Karnataka Kesari Jagannath Rao Joshi, on his birth anniversary. He praised Jagannath Rao Joshi for simplicity and how Rao inspired the youth to build character and respect the motherland.
Taking to X, he wrote, “Tribute to the eloquent speaker and popular leader of the people, Karnataka Kesari Jagannath Rao Joshi on his birth anniversary.”
Furthermore, he wrote, “Jagannath Rao Joshi ji fought hard to make Goa an integral part of India through the Goa Liberation Movement. From the Sangh to the Jansangh and the BJP, Joshi ji, famous for his simplicity and unwavering loyalty to the motherland, always inspired the youth to build character and respect the motherland.”

Karnataka Kesari Jagannath Rao Joshi
Jagannath Rao Joshi was a senior leader of the Bharatiya Jana Sangh and Bharatiya Janata Party.
He was born at Nargund, Karnataka, on 23 June 1920.
He completed his schooling at Nutan Marathi Vidyalaya and earned an English Honours degree from Sir Parshurambhau College, Pune.
Inspired by the ideology of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, he began his political career with the Jana Sangh in Pune.
Joshi was elected to the Lok Sabha from Madhya Pradesh in 1967 (Bhopal) and 1971 (Shajapur) as a Jana Sangh member.
Later, he served as a member of the Rajya Sabha from 1978 to 1984.
Jagannath Rao was the BJP’s candidate from Pune in the 1984 Lok Sabha elections.
A prominent RSS leader and respected orator, he played an active role in the Goa Liberation Movement.
Rao’s contribution in building the BJS and BJP in Karnataka earned him the epithet ‘Karnataka Kesari’ (Lion of Karnataka).
He delivered powerful political speeches in Hindi, English, Kannada, and Marathi with native fluency.
