Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah arrived in Bhopal on Friday as Madhya Pradesh steps up efforts to expand dairy cooperatives under White Revolution 2.0.
The initiative seeks to widen organised milk procurement, strengthen cooperative networks and improve market access for dairy farmers.
The Centre’s programme plans to establish 75,000 new Dairy Cooperative Societies and strengthen 46,422 existing societies.
Government data shows that 24,097 new societies have already been formed, while 31,394 existing societies have received support.
The initiative aims to raise cooperative milk procurement by 50 per cent over five years and extend coverage to previously underserved villages and panchayats.
Madhya Pradesh is working to broaden its cooperative reach across rural areas. The state plans to increase coverage from 7,331 villages to 26,000 villages over five years.
Daily milk collection is projected to rise from 1.2 million kg to 5.2 million kg, alongside a substantial expansion in processing capacity.
Bhopal Plant to Strengthen Value-Added Dairy Production
On October 3, Shah is scheduled to inaugurate a fermented-products dairy plant at the Bhopal Cooperative Milk Union.
The Rs 16.80-crore facility will have a processing capacity of 40,000 litres per day and produce curd, buttermilk, lassi, shrikhand and mawa under the Sanchi brand.
A Gopalak Sammelan is also expected to draw more than 35,000 cattle rearers.
The programme is based on the cooperative model and aims to improve farmers’ access to markets. It also seeks to strengthen women’s participation in the dairy economy.
White Revolution 2.0 also prioritises milk collection infrastructure, processing facilities, technical support and greater participation of women.
The government says the initiative is intended to improve farmer incomes while expanding cooperative activity in previously uncovered areas.
Challenges remain in remote regions, where stronger infrastructure and professional management are needed. Reliable market linkages will also be essential to expand the cooperative dairy network.
