The Allahabad HC has requested a report from the state government regarding encroachments around the Bankebihari temple in Mathura. This action was taken during a hearing about a proposed gallery (corridor) for the temple.
During the proceedings, it was revealed that the Municipal Corporation is responsible for addressing encroachments. As a result, the court ordered that the Municipal Corporation of Mathura be made a party to the case. The next hearing is scheduled for November 18, as confirmed by advocate Mayank Sharma.

In a report submitted to the court regarding ncroachments around the Bankebihari temple, it was indicated that encroachments at 81 locations around the temple have been identified, with actions planned to address them.
The matter is being heard by a division bench consisting of Justice Siddharth Verma and Justice Ram Manohar Narayan Mishra. In the previous hearing on September 4, the court had directed the District Magistrate of Mathura to document the encroachments around the temple premises and present this information through an affidavit.
The High Court had initially granted permission for the corridor on November 8, 2023, under certain conditions, based on a public interest litigation (PIL) filed by Anant Sharma and others. However, the state government has since filed an application to amend this order, seeking authorization to use temple funds for the corridor’s construction.
