During his speech, NSA Ajit Doval highlighted that the relationship between state and religion is not unique to Islam but has evolved throughout various historical periods. He cited the Abbasid rule as an example where the roles of state and religion were clearly defined.
Doval also spoke on the inability of some generations to “think outside the box,” pointing to the resistance by religious leaders to the printing press, fearing it might distort the true interpretation of Islam.
MJ Akbar, in his remarks, called Sufism pragmatic for promoting supportive rather than hostile relationships. He noted that while Muslims today live in democratic nations around the world, they struggle with understanding modernity and the concept of the nation-state.
Ahmet T Kuru concluded the session by stating that the solution to Muslim underdevelopment lies in democracy. He emphasized that all communities should honor equal rights and fulfill their duties toward their countries.
