The alliance between the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and Congress in Haryana has hit a major snag due to disagreements over seat-sharing. Sources informed India Today TV that Congress leaders in Haryana are resisting the idea of giving up too many seats to AAP, causing friction between the two parties.
AAP insiders have hinted that if Congress sticks to its current seat-sharing proposal, an alliance for the October 5 Assembly elections is unlikely. Both AAP and Congress, who are part of the INDIA bloc—a coalition that performed well in the recent Lok Sabha elections—are now facing a stalemate. Sources suggest that several rebel leaders from Congress and the BJP might contest on AAP’s ticket, adding to the complexities.

AAP’s Plans for the Election
AAP is expected to announce its first list of candidates on Sunday. The party reportedly aims to contest 5-7 seats as part of the alliance in the upcoming polls. Haryana has a 90-member assembly, where Congress won 31 seats, while AAP did not secure any in the last election.
Congress’s hesitation to allocate more seats to AAP may stem from AAP’s poor performance in the recent Lok Sabha elections. AAP contested just one seat and lost, while Congress won five out of the nine seats it contested, blocking another BJP sweep in the state.
Election Details and Changes
The Haryana Assembly elections are scheduled for October 5, with nominations closing on September 12. The Election Commission moved the election date from October 1 to October 5 to respect the voting customs of the Bishnoi community, which plays a crucial role in three districts of the state.
