A special edition of the weekly ‘Fit India – Sundays on Cycle’ event was held on Sunday at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, drawing enthusiastic participation from youth, athletes, and fitness lovers.
The Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports organised the event in collaboration with India Post under the banner of the Fit India Movement.
The event encouraged cycling as a sustainable and health-conscious lifestyle. Participants rode designated cycling routes in and around the stadium, advocating physical activity and reclaiming public spaces for fitness.
India Post officials also joined the ride, highlighting the importance of institutional involvement in community wellness.
This week’s edition stood out for honouring India’s U-16 basketball champions—Arman, Ansh Tomar, Shekhar Rathee, and Krishna Suneriya—who recently won gold at the 2024 South Asian U-16 Basketball Championship.
Their presence uplifted the event and symbolised the link between sports and a fit lifestyle.
Ansh Tomar emphasised the role of fitness in sports, “Staying fit is very important. If you’re fit, you can do anything. That’s what I’ve learned through sports.”
Shekhar Rathee encouraged youth to adopt cycling, “The new generation mostly uses bikes, but instead, they should use bicycles. It will keep them healthy. It’s a great step that the government is promoting this movement.”
Krishna Suneriya called the initiative essential amid rising obesity, “With obesity on the rise in India, this effort is truly commendable.”
Coach Manoj Singh Sisodiya praised the national initiative, “Fit India Movement is a great initiative by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya. It targets the youth and builds lifelong fitness habits.”
‘Sundays on Cycle’ continues to gain momentum across India, especially among students, athletes, and working professionals.
The initiative aims to make fitness a mass movement by encouraging active lifestyles and community engagement.
