PIB Refutes False Claim About Missing Black Box Recording Of AI 171 Flight

The Press Information Bureau (PIB), through its official fact-checking handle, has strongly refuted a misleading report published by Dainik Bhaskar, which claimed that the last 10 minutes of audio from flight AI 171’s black box are missing.

In a post on X, PIB Fact Check categorically labelled the claim as false. “Fake News Alert! . @DainikBhaskar claimed in one of its reports that the last 10 minutes of recording from the black box of flight AI 171 are missing #PIBFactCheck This claim is # The complete recording from the black box of flight AI 171 is available Avoid fake news and verify facts only from official sources.”

The claim, shared widely on social media, suggested that a critical segment of the cockpit voice recorder (CVR) data, specifically the final 10 minutes, was absent.

The report sparked public concern and prompted speculation regarding the circumstances surrounding the AI 171 flight.

However, PIB Fact Check’s clarification has laid these rumours to rest. The government has confirmed that there is no missing audio and that the black box recording remains fully available for official analysis.

Advisory on Responsible Information Sharing

In its advisory, PIB urged citizens to avoid falling prey to such false narratives, especially during sensitive events. It emphasised that misinformation, particularly regarding aviation incidents, can lead to unnecessary panic and erode public trust.

The bureau also reminded media outlets to exercise responsibility and verify information through official channels before publishing reports.

The government has advised the public to cross-check sensational claims with credible sources like PIB Fact Check, especially those related to safety, national security, or technical investigations.

The government continues to encourage digital awareness and responsible sharing practices among citizens.

As part of its campaign against disinformation, PIB invited users to report suspicious news or viral claims via its @PIBFactCheck handle on social media platforms.

In an age where manipulated or unverified content spreads rapidly, the role of fact-checking becomes crucial. The public is urged to stay informed through authentic sources and refrain from amplifying fake or misleading reports online.
