PIB Fact Check Exposes Fake AI Video Of President Murmu Circulated By Pakistani Accounts

The Press Information Bureau’s Fact Check unit (PIB Fact Check) on Wednesday called out a doctored video of President Droupadi Murmu, which was being circulated by Pakistani propaganda handles with misleading claims that Prime Minister Narendra Modi was using her image to promote Rafale fighter jets.

Taking to X, the PIB Fact Check posted, “Pakistani propaganda accounts are circulating a digitally altered video of President Droupadi Murmu with false claims that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is using her as a prop to elevate Rafale PR.”

The fabricated video reportedly used AI to generate a voice imitating the President. It falsely claimed that the Modi government had ‘blackmailed’ her into appearing in Rafale-related material.

The fake clip included scripted lines such as:

I want to request the citizens of our country that Modi Ji’s Hindutva government blackmailed me and ordered me to sit in Rafale. If anything happens to me, Modi Ji and his Hindutva politics will be responsible.

Dismissing the claims outright, PIB Fact Check further stated, “The President of India has NOT made any such statement!”

The agency, however, confirmed that the video remains AI-generated and was intentionally shared to mislead viewers. It urged social media users not to fall for such fabricated content.

To counter the misinformation, PIB also shared the original, unedited version of the video and encouraged the public to report false posts via WhatsApp (+91 8799711259) or email (factcheck@pib.gov.in).

This is not the first time the bureau has flagged AI-manipulated content.

Earlier this week, the agency also warned users about a fake video featuring Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman. The video promoted a fraudulent investment scheme that promised returns of Rs 60,000 a day and Rs 10 lakh a month.

In that clarification, PIB said, “A video on Facebook falsely shows Union Finance Minister @nsitharaman promoting an ‘investment program’ that promises easy daily income. The Finance Minister or the Government of India has NOT launched or endorsed any such scheme!”

The bureau cautioned citizens to be vigilant against online scams and verify any extraordinary claims before making financial decisions.

It further advised users to watch for indicators of video manipulation, including:

  • Unnatural lip movements,
  • Voice mismatch,
  • Inconsistent backgrounds,
  • Fake logos, and
  • Verify that official government websites always end with ‘.gov.in’

“Don’t fall for such get-rich-quick traps! Stay alert. Stay informed. Verify before you share,” PIB further warned in its advisory.
