Noida Authority Unveils Comprehensive Street Dog Welfare Plan Following Supreme Court Guidelines

The Noida Authority has prepared a detailed plan to improve the welfare and management of street dogs. The move aligns with the Supreme Court’s recent directive on their protection and public safety.

According to Mahendra Prasad, Officer on Special Duty (OSD) at the Noida Authority, a modern animal shelter has been set up in Sector 94. It currently accommodates around 1,000 stray dogs.

The centre provides medical care, vaccinations, and sterilisation, with special treatment facilities for rabies-infected dogs.

A team of veterinarians and para-veterinary staff has been deployed at the site to ensure regular health monitoring and care for the animals.

“Around 50 dogs are being sterilised every day, helping control the growing street dog population in Noida,” Prasad stated.

The authority, in partnership with two NGOs, has launched a citywide rabies vaccination campaign. The drive covers stray dogs across all sectors to safeguard both residents and animals.

Plans are also underway to construct another state-of-the-art shelter, capable of housing an additional 1,000 dogs.

The upcoming facility will provide food, water, veterinary services, and permanent staff support to maintain animal welfare standards.

To encourage humane street dog management, the authority intends to create about 1,500 feeding stations throughout Noida.

These will supply regular food and water, helping reduce aggression and preventing dogs from roaming in search of resources.

For handling citizen complaints and emergencies, a 24-hour toll-free helpline has been introduced, with another dedicated helpline expected to become operational soon.

Calling the initiative a ‘step towards compassion and coexistence’, Prasad emphasised the broader aim:

Our aim is to ensure that both humans and animals in Noida live in a safe, healthy, and balanced environment.
