The Department of Telecommunications and Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) have issued a warning to the public regarding a fake notice circulating on social media and messaging platforms.
The notice falsely claims that TRAI has suspended a customer’s KYC (Know Your Customer) and will block their SIM card within 24 hours.
According to official sources, this notice is entirely fraudulent and has no connection with BSNL or TRAI.
BSNL has confirmed that it never issues messages or notices threatening customers with SIM card deactivation over KYC issues.
The company emphasised that customers should remain vigilant and avoid responding to suspicious messages or calls.
A BSNL spokesperson stated, “Customers must not share personal or banking information with unknown individuals or sources claiming to act on behalf of BSNL or TRAI. Any such communication is fake and should be ignored.”
The Press Information Bureau (PIB) verified the authenticity of the message. It categorically labelled the notice as fake under its #PIBFactCheck initiative.
Citizens have been advised to report such fraudulent attempts to official channels and exercise caution while sharing sensitive information online.
Authorities recommend that customers verify any message received regarding KYC or SIM card services. They should contact BSNL directly through official customer care channels.
Authorities urge users to avoid clicking on unknown links or responding to unverified messages. They also advise against sharing OTPs, banking details, or other personal information.
The alert aims to safeguard telecom users from falling victim to scams that exploit fears of SIM deactivation and KYC non-compliance.
