‘Terrorists May Hide, But They Cannot Escape’, Warns Amit Shah At NSG Raising Day

Home Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday praised the National Security Guard (NSG), calling it the nation’s strongest shield against terrorism and organised crime. He was speaking at the 41st Raising Day celebrations of the elite force in Manesar, Haryana.

Commemorating four decades of dedicated service, Amit Shah paid tribute to the brave NSG personnel who have laid down their lives in the line of duty.

“We all heartily remember those who laid down their lives in the security of the country; I want to salute them on behalf of the entire nation,” he stated.

Acknowledging the NSG’s remarkable contribution since its establishment in 1984, the Home Minister highlighted its critical role in major operations such as the Akshardham temple attack, the 26/11 Mumbai attacks, and several hostage rescue missions.

He further reaffirmed that the NSG continues to stand as India’s foremost counter-terrorism unit.

Announcing an expansion of the force, Amit Shah declared that a new NSG hub will be set up in Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh.

With this addition, the elite commando force will operate from seven key hubs:

  • Mumbai,
  • Chennai,
  • Kolkata,
  • Hyderabad,
  • Ahmedabad,
  • Jammu, and
  • Ayodhya

This expansion will, however, enhance the NSG’s rapid deployment capability across the country.

He emphasised that NSG commandos remain on constant readiness to neutralise any terror threat.

Under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, Shah asserted, India has embraced a ‘zero terrorism policy’ towards terrorism.

He outlined several security reforms introduced since 2019, including:

  • Amendments to the UAPA and NIA Acts,
  • Empowering the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and strengthening the PMLA to combat terror financing,
  • Development of scientific investigation systems, and
  • The ban on the Popular Front of India (PFI)

“Terrorists may hide, but they cannot escape,” Shah remarked, noting that decisive measures such as the abrogation of Article 370, surgical strikes, and air strikes have “shattered the backbone of terrorism.”

He also referred to two key counter-terror operations:

  • Operation Sindoor, which targeted and destroyed terrorist training camps and launchpads across the border, and
  • Operation Mahadev, which eliminated those responsible for past attacks on India

Highlighting efforts beyond security, the Home Minister praised Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) personnel for their contribution to environmental conservation. He further noted that they have planted over 6.5 crore saplings since 2019, helping promote national greenery and ecological balance.

He also laid the foundation stone for a new Special Training Centre spread across 8 acres at a cost of Rs 141 crore.

The advanced facility will provide specialised counter-terrorism training to commandos, further strengthening India’s preparedness against future threats.
