Social media has been buzzing about the India vs. Bharat debate ever since yesterday. After a photo of President Droupadi Murmu’s invitation to G20 leaders went viral, talk about India possibly changing its name started to spread. Instead of using the traditional “President of India,” the document was signed by the “President of Bharat.” The possibility of the renaming soon sparked lively discussions on social media. Actor Jackie Shroff from Bollywood has now added his voice to the discussion. Discover what he said!
Yesterday in New Delhi, Jackie Shroff attended the Planet India campaign. He was questioned about the rumor that India might now be renamed to Bharat during a media interview. Jackie responded that our nation used to be known as Bharat and that it’s okay if it continues to go by that name. He continued by saying that he goes by many names—Jockey, Jaki, etc.—but that doesn’t mean he has changed.
“Agar aapko Bharat ko Bharat bolna hai, toh koi buri baat toh nahi hai. Bharat hi bolenge Bharat ko na? Chalo, India hai to India hai, Bharat hai to Bharat hai. Mera naam Jackie hai, mujhe koi Jockey bolta hai, koi Jaki bolta hai. Mere naam ko itna tod dete hain. Par main nahi badlunga. Hum kaise badlenge? Naam badlenge, hum thodi badlenge (There’s nothing wrong if Bharat is being called Bharat. My name is Jackie, but some call me Jockey, many call me Jaki. People often distort my name. But I haven’t changed. How will we change? The name might change, not us),” said Jackie. The video of Jackie Shroff reacting to India vs. Bharat row has been shared by ANI on Twitter.
Megastar Amitabh Bachchan’s tweet has also received a lot of attention amid the buzz surrounding the India vs. Bharat match. Bharat Mata Ki Jai was written in Hindi yesterday by Big B on X, formerly known as Twitter.
