Is Crime Against Women a well-established concept or an abominable criminal practice?
If the concept exists, it exists everywhere around the globe. In Indian sphere it dwells in Delhi more than any other Indian cities. And if it is an abominable criminal practice yet it is more than an unfortunate practical reality in Indian society.
The heinous crime is in the minds and mindset as well. Countries and cities are no exception anywhere. Crime does not do injustice of preferring people or places, neither do the victims prefer to choose a place or a person. This happens by itself over the surface of earth.
India, a country of morals and ethics also is not out of the vicious criminal circle. And talk about the national capital, it certainly is on the ladder called numero uno.
The year 2022 does not have the yearly figures so far by the month of ongoing October. Hence let us go ahead analyzing the data belonging to the year 2021. Delhi begs the top award with reporting highest number of rape cases.
The ladders of crime in India, particularly crime against women in India praises the West Bengal capital Kolkata with least among 19 Indian cities involved in the shameful crimes.
While comparing the top slot against with the one with least number of Crime against Women cases, Kolkata reports 11 rape cases in 2021, whereas Delhi accounts for 1126 cases. This is the highest share of the total number of rape cases in India. This is what is seen in the National Crime Records Bureau data.
Among 19 metropolitan cities in India last year, after Delhi, Jaipur belongs to the second place with 502 such cases under IPC section 376. Then follows Mumbai with 364 rape cases.
At the bottom of the chart we find Coimbatore in Tamil Nadu with 12 rape cases and Patna with 30 rape cases before the Kolkata bottom.
Proceeding further, the NCRB reports reveal Indore of Madhya Pradesh reported 165 rape cases, Bengaluru of Karnataka 117 cases, and Andhra Pradesha’s Hyderabad 116 cases and then Nagpur of Maharashtra’s Nagpur reports 115 cases last year.
Nineteen Indian metro cities in the three sixty five days record a total of 3,208 rape cases. Significantly among these Kolkata is the city where no attempt-to-rape cases were registered. Two years back in 2019 a total of 14 such cases were seen in Kolkata and then came down to 11 in two years by 2021.
