Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced on Friday that electronics manufacturing in India has grown fivefold over the past six years, with the sector’s total value now surpassing ₹11 lakh crore.
He also revealed that electronic exports have increased sixfold in the last decade, crossing ₹3.25 lakh crore.
Major Milestone In ‘Make In India’ Journey
Speaking at the inauguration of VVDN Technologies’ state-of-the-art Surface Mount Technology (SMT) Line and Mechanical Innovation Park at the company’s Global Innovation Park in Manesar, Vaishnaw celebrated the sector’s impressive progress.
“Electronics manufacturing stands as one of the biggest success stories of the ‘Make in India’ initiative,” the minister said.
“The sector now employs more than 25 lakh people and is poised for exponential growth.”
Cabinet Clears New Component Manufacturing Scheme
Vaishnaw also highlighted the recently approved New Electronics Component Manufacturing Scheme, calling it a key step toward strengthening India’s role in global electronics supply chains.
He confirmed that scheme guidelines will be released soon.

“India is now capable not only of manufacturing but also of designing advanced electronic products,” he said.
“This gives us a significant edge over other countries that lack strong design capabilities.”
India’s Vision: A Trusted Electronics Hub
Reaffirming the government’s commitment to building a trusted and resilient electronics manufacturing base, the minister emphasised the importance of intellectual property protection, design-led innovation, and diverse rare earth supply chains.
Focus On Industry-Ready Skilling Programmes
In addition, Vaishnaw outlined a three-tier skilling strategy tailored for the high-tech electronics sector. This includes:
- Basic technical training
- On-site, product-specific skill development
- Industry-aligned university courses
These initiatives aim to prepare a highly skilled workforce, especially for capital-intensive roles that are crucial to the electronics manufacturing ecosystem.
Looking Ahead
As India cements its position in global electronics manufacturing, the government’s forward-looking policies and strong public-private partnerships are expected to drive further growth.
With innovation hubs like VVDN’s facility in Manesar leading the way, the nation appears well on track to becoming a global powerhouse in electronics design and production.
