India’s Defence Ministry announced on Monday the signing of two major contracts aimed at enhancing the capabilities of the Indian Navy’s submarine fleet.
The first contract, worth ₹1,990 crore (approximately $233 million), was awarded to Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders for advanced technology that will enable Indian submarines to stay submerged for extended periods. This technology is expected to significantly improve the operational efficiency and stealth capabilities of India’s submarine fleet.

In a second move to strengthen naval firepower, the Defence Ministry signed an ₹870 crore ($102 million) deal with France’s Naval Group. This contract will facilitate the integration of torpedoes onto Indian submarines, enhancing their offensive capabilities.
These strategic agreements underscore India’s ongoing efforts to modernize and expand its naval capabilities, particularly in the underwater domain. The contracts also reflect the growing defence cooperation between India and key global partners in the military sector.
