India Boosts Submarine Capabilities with Major Defence Contracts

In a second move to strengthen naval firepower, the Defence Ministry signed an ₹870 crore ($102 million) deal with France’s Naval Group.

India Boosts Submarine Capabilities

India’s Defence Ministry announced on Monday the signing of two major contracts aimed at enhancing the capabilities of the Indian Navy’s submarine fleet.

The first contract, worth ₹1,990 crore (approximately $233 million), was awarded to Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders for advanced technology that will enable Indian submarines to stay submerged for extended periods. This technology is expected to significantly improve the operational efficiency and stealth capabilities of India’s submarine fleet.
