The Sensex surged 1,718.01 points, or 2.17 per cent, to close at 81,028.02 on Friday, extending its winning streak to seven consecutive sessions for the first time in three years. Strong buying in banking stocks and select companies with robust earnings lifted investor sentiment.

The Sensex surged 1,718.01 points, or 2.17 per cent, to close at 81,028.02. The Nifty gained 493.75 points, or 2.01 per cent, to settle at 25,030.35.

The rally helped the Nifty cross the psychologically important 25,000 mark for the first time since February 27, 2026. The index also recorded its highest closing level in nine months.

Market experts identified 25,150–25,200 as the Nifty’s immediate resistance zone. They said a sustained move above this range could strengthen bullish momentum and push the index higher.

On the downside, analysts placed immediate support at 24,800. They said the index must hold above this level to maintain its upward trend. A decisive fall below it could trigger short-term profit-booking.

Investors continued buying banking and financial services stocks. The unwinding of the global artificial intelligence trade further encouraged investors to shift towards other sectors.

Among Nifty constituents, Mahindra & Mahindra, ICICI Bank and HDFC Life Insurance Company emerged as the top gainers.

Easing concerns over the West Asia conflict and improving sentiment following corporate earnings announcements further supported the recovery.

Midcap And Smallcap Stocks Underperform

However, broader markets failed to match the benchmark rally. The Nifty MidCap 100 slipped 0.02 per cent, while the Nifty SmallCap 100 declined 0.82 per cent.

Among sectoral indices, the Nifty Private Bank index led the gains as investors accumulated financial stocks. The Nifty Media index emerged as the worst-performing sector during the session.
