Bomb Threat At BSE Triggers Panic; Police Confirm Hoax

A bomb threat email was sent to the iconic Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) in South Mumbai on Tuesday morning, briefly throwing the premises into panic.

The sender warned on the official BSE website that they had planted four RDX-based IEDs in the BSE’s Feroze Tower, which would detonate at 3:00 PM.

The threat, sent under the alias Comrade Pinayari Vijayan, prompted immediate action from the Mumbai Police. Within minutes of the alert, security forces, including bomb detection and disposal squads, reached the premises and initiated a full-scale search operation.

Officers cordoned off the building and combed the area thoroughly. The police registered a case at the Mata Ramabai Ambedkar Marg Police Station under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

Authorities conducted extensive checks and declared the threat unfounded, confirming they found no suspicious objects on-site.

Police confirmed the email to be a hoax but have launched a cyber investigation to identify the origin of the threatening message and track down the sender.

Similar Threats Across India Raise Alarm

Similar threats targeted three schools in New Delhi, a day before this bomb scare struck one of India’s key financial institutions.

In those cases, too, police conducted thorough security sweeps and concluded the warnings were baseless.

Likewise, the Golden Temple in Amritsar also received a threatening email on Monday. The sender claimed to have planted explosives at the Darbar Sahib and its langar (community kitchen) hall.

Security forces conducted a prompt search but found no explosives. The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) filed a formal complaint regarding the incident.

Reacting strongly to the Golden Temple threat, Amritsar MP Gurjeet Singh Aujla took to social media, stating, “An email has been received threatening to blow up Sri Harmandir Sahib (Golden Temple) with RDX. This is not just a threat to a religious site—it’s an attack on peace, faith & humanity.”

In the wake of these multiple false alarms, security agencies remain on high alert. Authorities have urged citizens to remain vigilant but calm, assuring the public that strict measures are in place to address any potential threats.

Cybercrime teams are working to trace the digital footprint of the threat emails, with preliminary findings suggesting coordinated mischief.

Police sources said that further updates will follow as the investigation progresses.

The incident serves as a reminder of the importance of a robust security infrastructure in safeguarding national landmarks and public confidence.
