China asked the United Nations on Thursday not to underestimate its strong will on Taiwan, while stating that Beijing supported peaceful measures of achieving self-governing democracy.

In his address to the General Assembly, Vice President Han Zheng reiterated Beijing’s stance that Taiwan around which the communist mainland has conducted several military drills, is an inalienable part of China.

“No one should ever underestimate the firm resolve, strong will, and the power of the Chinese people to safeguard their sovereignty and territorial integrity”, Zheng stated.

Further, Zheng said, “Realizing China’s complete reunification is a shared aspiration of all the sons and daughters of the Chinese nation”.

“We will continue to strive for peaceful reunification with the greatest sincerity and the utmost effort”, Zheng continued.

Almost all countries recognize Beijing rather than Taipei, although the United States maintains an unofficial engagement with Taiwan, providing weaponry to secure its self-defense.

Some US officials have expressed concern that China is speeding up plans to seize the island by force, particularly if Taiwan makes moves to declare its independence.

According to the experts, China has been reviewing lessons from Ukraine, which Russia has yet to annex a year and a half after invading.

China is an ally of Russia, but it has not provided Moscow with significant military assistance.

China wanted a cessation of hostilities and a resumption of peace talks in Ukraine, according to Han.

“China supports all efforts that are conducive to a peaceful resolution of the Ukraine crisis, and stands ready to continue playing a constructive role for the early attainment of peace”, Han stated.

Han met with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken on the sidelines of the General Assembly earlier this week, the latest effort by the two nations to manage their wide-ranging disputes.
