Delhi-NCR is likely to receive isolated to scattered rainfall from October 28 to November 1 as a western disturbance and Cyclone Arnab influence weather conditions across parts of the country, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

The unseasonal showers could lower daytime temperatures and affect Karwa Chauth celebrations across the region. The forecast comes as northern and eastern India prepare for rainfall over the coming days.

The IMD said a cyclonic circulation over north-west Uttar Pradesh and neighbouring areas was influencing weather conditions across northern India. Meanwhile, Cyclone Arnab was expected to move north-westwards and cross the Andhra Pradesh and Yanam coasts between Bapatla and Visakhapatnam, near Yanam, as a very severe cyclonic storm by the morning of October 28.

The weather agency forecast maximum sustained winds of 125-135 kmph, with gusts reaching 150 kmph.

The IMD also predicted isolated to very heavy rainfall over Telangana and Vidarbha on October 28. Chhattisgarh, eastern Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand and Odisha could receive rainfall on October 29, while Bihar may experience showers on October 29 and 30.

Meanwhile, Delhi’s air quality remained in the ‘poor’ category on Wednesday morning. The Central Pollution Control Board’s (CPCB) All India AQI portal recorded a city-level Air Quality Index (AQI) of 250 at 8 am.

Fine particulate matter, or PM2.5, emerged as the prominent pollutant. These tiny particles can penetrate deep into the lungs and pose health risks.

Vivek Vihar recorded the highest AQI at 320, followed by Jahangirpuri (307) and Patparganj (291). Other areas, including Sirifort, Dwarka Sector 8 and RK Puram, recorded AQI levels between 284 and 290, highlighting widespread poor air quality across Delhi.
