SC Imposes Stay On ASI Survey Of Gyanvapi Mosque Complex Till Wednesday

LIVE: On Monday, a team from the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI), which arrived in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, late last night, started surveying the Gyanvapi Mosque complex. The mosque’s wazukhana will be excluded from a scientific study of the mosque’s grounds. Four women plaintiffs and their lawyers are among the 32 members of the Hindu side and the ASI survey team who are currently inside the mosque, according to local reporters.

The Varanasi district court ordered a thorough inspection of the mosque on Friday to determine whether it had been constructed on an earlier Hindu temple. Sohan Lal Arya, petitioner in the Gyanvapi mosque case said, “This is a very glorious moment for us for the Hindu community & crores of Hindus…survey is the only possible solution to this Gyanvapi issue.” Many revelations are expected to come up in the later part of the day.
