The advisory encouraged people to celebrate Diwali responsibly while protecting their money from online fraud. It highlighted three important precautions: ‘Pause. Rethink. Verify’ before responding to suspicious digital offers or sending messages.
Fraudsters often exploit festive shopping and the excitement surrounding discounts and rewards to target unsuspecting consumers.
Fake cashback promises and payment links can be used to deceive users and expose their financial information.
Consumers should verify the authenticity of offers before clicking links or completing transactions. They should avoid sharing confidential banking details and remain cautious about unexpected payment requests.
PIB Fact Check’s message urges citizens to prioritise digital safety during the celebrations, reminding them that a moment of caution can help prevent financial losses.
The advisory concluded with a simple message for the festive season: spread light, share smiles, and keep money safe. Citizens were encouraged to celebrate wisely and stay scam-safe.
