PM Modi Praises Shivani’s Family For Organ Donation After Tragic Road Accident

Prime Minister Narendra Modi praised the family of Shivani from Madhya Pradesh for donating her organs after a tragic road accident. During his Mann Ki Baat address on Sunday, he highlighted their decision as an inspiring example of how organ donation can save lives and support scientific research.

Referring to Shivani, a resident of Narmadapuram district, PM Modi said her family chose to donate her organs despite their immense grief. He said their decision had sent a powerful message to society by giving other patients a chance at life.

The Prime Minister linked organ donation to research at the recently inaugurated Sudha Gopalakrishnan Brain Centre at IIT Madras, which aims to create 3D digital images and map 100 human brains using advanced imaging technology.

Researchers use the Param Shakti supercomputer to support this complex work. PM Modi said a deeper understanding of the brain could help scientists explore new approaches to diseases such as Alzheimer’s and dementia, for which definitive treatments remain unavailable.

The centre will also make its research data available as open source to support scientific work across disciplines.

PM Modi emphasised that organ donation can serve two purposes: helping patients through transplantation and advancing medical research. He urged society to draw inspiration from Shivani’s family.

Shivani, also known as Bilash Tanti Sharma, suffered critical head injuries in a road accident on October 10 while travelling to Vijayasan Devi Temple in Salkanpur. Doctors at AIIMS Bhopal declared her brain-stem dead on October 14.

Her family donated her organs on October 15, helping three patients receive transplants. Doctors transplanted one kidney at AIIMS Bhopal and her other kidney and liver at a private Bhopal hospital. Her family cremated her with a guard of honour.
