On Monday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to address a nationwide gathering focused on women’s empowerment at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi.

The event, titled the ‘Nari Shakti Vandan Sammelan’, will bring together women leaders and distinguished participants from fields such as governance, science, education, business, media, sports, and social service.

The programme is to encourage dialogue on the expanding role of women in India’s growth and policy framework.

Organised by the Union government, the conference forms part of a broader emphasis on women-led development.

Discussions will likely centre on increasing women’s participation in leadership and decision-making, spanning local bodies like Panchayats to national institutions.

The gathering takes place following the passage of the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam in September 2023.

The law mandates one-third reservation for women in the Lok Sabha and State Legislative Assemblies, marking a major shift in political representation.

Attention is now turning towards implementing the provisions of the legislation. A session of Parliament will take place from April 16 to 18 to deliberate further on the rollout and related measures.

Officials say the Sammelan aims to strengthen momentum around women’s inclusion in governance and highlight their contributions across sectors. It will also reinforce the government’s long-term vision of building a developed nation by 2047, often referred to as ‘Viksit Bharat 2047’, with women playing a central role in that journey.

The event will likely underline the importance of inclusive growth and sustained efforts to expand opportunities for women across the country.
