Punjab Kings (PBKS) have reportedly moved ahead in the race to acquire Hardik Pandya from Mumbai Indians (MI) through a trade ahead of the November 17 retention deadline for IPL 2027.
Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), Rajasthan Royals (RR) and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) have also shown interest in the India all-rounder.
According to a source, verbal discussions between PBKS and MI have progressed, with formal paperwork potentially beginning soon, followed by approval from IPL officials.
Under the proposed deal, PBKS could send left-arm pacer Arshdeep Singh and wicketkeeper-batter Vishnu Vinod to MI in exchange for Pandya.
KKR reportedly advanced in discussions but were unwilling to release core players.
RR explored a possible swap involving Yashasvi Jaiswal and Ravi Bishnoi, while LSG’s efforts made limited progress. Chennai Super Kings also showed initial interest.
PBKS could additionally seek Mohsin Khan in exchange for Australia’s Marcus Stoinis if the Pandya deal progresses.
Pandya could strengthen Shreyas Iyer-led PBKS with his batting and seam-bowling abilities. MI, meanwhile, would gain an experienced Indian left-arm fast bowler and another wicketkeeping option.
However, Pandya may remain at MI if negotiations fail, potentially playing another season before next year’s mega auction.
The all-rounder led Gujarat Titans to the IPL title in 2022 before returning to MI in 2024. His recent captaincy stint produced mixed results.
Pandya’s fitness remains a concern, as he has not played competitive cricket since IPL 2026 following a series of injuries, including a shin problem.
