The Ministry of Home Affairs will convene the Akhil Bharatiya Rajbhasha Sammelan in Tripura on February 20. The Department of Official Language will organise the Joint Regional Official Language Conference for the eastern, northeastern and northern regions.
Authorities will host the event at the International Indoor Exhibition Centre in Hapania, on the outskirts of Agartala.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah will attend the conference. Senior officials confirmed his participation. Several dignitaries will also join the gathering.
Representatives from Central government departments, public sector enterprises, banks and Town Official Language Implementation Committees will take part.
Other institutional stakeholders will also participate in the deliberations.
Organisers have planned an exhibition to enhance engagement. The display will highlight exemplary initiatives in Official Language implementation.
Various organisations will showcase their achievements and best practices.
Authorities have asked participating bodies to submit details of innovative measures and notable contributions. They will present these initiatives at designated stalls during the exhibition.
Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha confirmed Shah’s visit while addressing the media on the sidelines of a separate programme. He reaffirmed the state government’s preparations for the conference.
Bharatiya Janata Party sources indicated that Shah may conduct strategic meetings during his visit. He is likely to meet Chief Minister Saha and senior BJP functionaries. They may review organisational and political matters.
Sources further stated that Shah may also engage with leaders of the Tipra Motha Party.
Discussions could include party chief Pradyot Bikram Manikya Debbarma. The meetings may address prevailing differences between the BJP and its ally.
Political activity has intensified ahead of the elections to the 30-member Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council.
Parties have accelerated preparations for the polls. Authorities expect the elections to take place in March or April.
The forthcoming Sammelan will therefore coincide with heightened political momentum in the state.
