The Ministry of Civil Aviation has undertaken an extensive nationwide review of airport operations following persistent disruptions in IndiGo’s flight services, which have resulted in mounting delays and difficulties for travellers.
The government’s response marks one of its most active interventions in recent aviation-related disturbances.
Civil Aviation Minister K Ram Mohan Naidu said that senior officials are visiting key airports to assess ground conditions and provide immediate assistance to passengers affected by delays or cancellations.
In a detailed post on X, the Minister stated that both the Ministry and the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) had been continuously tracking the situation in real time since December 3, when irregularities in IndiGo’s operations first began disrupting flight schedules nationwide.
Describing the events as ‘extraordinary circumstances’, he emphasised the need for swift and sustained intervention.
Top officials from the Ministry and the DGCA held a high-level review meeting to reassess airport performance, airline responsiveness, and the support provided to stranded passengers.
Officials Dispatched to Conduct Ground-Level Checks
During the meeting, authorities instructed officials to travel immediately to airports across the country. Their tasks include carrying out inspections, speaking directly with passengers, assessing airline handling procedures, and identifying gaps in services such as communication, crowd management, and assistance at check-in and boarding points.
The Minister said that officials must address any deficiencies they uncover, especially those highlighted by passenger feedback, immediately.
The intensified review comes amid a surge of social media posts from passengers reporting long queues, slow check-in counters, and limited information regarding revised flight timings.
IndiGo, India’s largest carrier, has faced operational hurdles throughout the week, affecting major hubs such as Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, and Hyderabad.
While the Minister did not specify the cause of the airline’s difficulties or outline when normal operations would resume, officials indicated that the government’s immediate focus is on stabilising airport processes and ensuring that travellers receive timely updates and adequate support.
A detailed advisory from the Ministry is expected once initial on-ground assessments are compiled over the next 24 hours.
