Prime Minister Narendra Modi reiterated the importance of promoting ‘Swadeshi’ while speaking on Sunday.
“I always urge you all to carry forward the mantra of ‘Vocal for Local’. During the recent G-20 Summit, when presenting gifts to world leaders, this sentiment guided every choice,” he said.
He presented a bronze Nataraja statue to the President of South Africa, exemplifying Chola-era craftsmanship rooted in Thanjavur, Tamil Nadu.
Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney received a silver horse replica reflecting Udaipur’s artistry, while Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi received a silver Buddha showcasing the renowned silver art of Telangana and Karimnagar.
Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni received a silver mirror decorated with floral motifs representing Karimnagar’s metal craft, and Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese received a brass ‘uruli’ from Mannar, Kerala.
Global Platform for Indian Artisans
“My aim was to make the world aware of Indian crafts, art, and traditions, providing a global platform for our talented artisans,” PM Modi said.
He emphasised that highlighting India’s heritage abroad also supports local artisans and promotes sustainable economic growth.
The Prime Minister noted that the spirit of ‘Vocal for Local’ is increasingly visible across India.
“During festive shopping this year, people’s choices reflected a return to Swadeshi. Indian products were widely preferred, benefiting small shopkeepers and local businesses. The youth have also contributed significantly to this movement,” he added.
With Christmas and New Year approaching, PM Modi encouraged citizens to continue supporting local enterprises.
“A new round of festive shopping is about to begin. Remember the mantra of ‘Vocal for Local’. Buy only what is made in the country, and sell only what reflects the hard work of our citizens,” he said.
Through initiatives like presenting Indian crafts at international forums and promoting domestic products, PM Modi aims to strengthen India’s economy, highlight its cultural heritage, and empower local artisans.
His message underscores that embracing Swadeshi is both a matter of national pride and a step towards sustainable growth.
PM Modi’s focus on ‘Vocal for Local’ continues to inspire citizens and entrepreneurs alike, reinforcing India’s commitment to promoting its rich traditions and fostering economic self-reliance.
