Prime Minister Narendra Modi reached Mangaluru International Airport on Friday for an important visit to Udupi, where he will take part in a series of religious and cultural events.

He landed in a special aircraft and will continue his journey to the Aadi Udupi helipad in an Army helicopter. From there, he will travel by road to Udupi city.

This marks his first visit to the temple town in 14 years, his previous trip taking place during his tenure as Gujarat Chief Minister. Governor Thawarchand Gehlot, Dharmadhikari Veerendra Heggade, Minister Byrathi Suresh, and BJP State President BY Vijayendra will accompany him during the programmes.

Ahead of his arrival at Sri Krishna Math, PM Modi will participate in a roadshow featuring local and regional cultural troupes.

Organisers will shower flowers along the route, and they have set up three dedicated viewing points for him to witness various performances. Authorities have temporarily closed shops within a five-kilometre radius as part of the preparations.

Upon reaching the historic Udupi Sri Krishna Math, the Prime Minister will be welcomed with traditional rituals. He will take part in the ‘Laksha Kantha Gita’ mass-chanting programme, where more than one lakh devotees will recite verses from the Bhagavad Gita.

Highlights of the Temple Visit

PM Modi will visit Madhwa Sarovara, offer prayers, and perform a special puja before joining the large gathering for the Gita recitation.

He will also unveil the Kanaka Kavacha, a golden covering for the revered Kanakana Kindi, the window associated with the 16th-century saint-poet Kanakadasa, whose devotion caused the temple idol to face him when he was denied entry.

Seer Sugunendra Tirtha Swami said the mutt would present the Suwarna Thirta Mantapa through the Prime Minister. Modi will also visit Sarvagnya Peeta, the goshala, and the newly constructed Gita Mandira, and will later meet seers from all eight Ashta Mutts.

The Udupi police have deployed more than 3,000 personnel to ensure stringent security during the Prime Minister’s visit.

Authorities have set up multiple layers of barricading, and they will station officers of various ranks, including SPs, DySPs, inspectors, constables, KSRP platoons, and Quick Response Teams throughout the city.

This visit will be Narendra Modi’s first to Sri Krishna Math since assuming office as Prime Minister, and local authorities are in the final stages of preparation for the high-profile event.
