Jaishankar Underscores Steady Progress
During her meeting with EAM S Jaishankar, the two leaders reviewed progress in key areas and agreed to revitalise institutional mechanisms for cooperation.
Jaishankar highlighted that ties between India and Canada had been steadily improving and that both countries were working to ‘restore and reinvigorate’ the partnership.
He referred to the recent high-level engagements, including meetings between National Security Advisors Ajit Doval and Nathalie G Drouin, foreign ministry officials, and trade ministers. Jaishankar said, “We see Canada as a complementary economy and an open society with shared values of diversity and pluralism, the foundation for a sustainable, long-term partnership.”
India and Canada have prepared a roadmap to enhance cooperation in fields such as science, technology, artificial intelligence, civil nuclear collaboration, agriculture, and trade.
Both sides also welcomed the assumption of duties by their respective High Commissioners, reinforcing diplomatic continuity.
Concluding the discussions, Jaishankar said the two foreign ministries bore the responsibility to ‘shepherd the process of rebuilding cooperation’ and ensure it delivers on the expectations of both prime ministers and the people of the two nations.
