Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal attended a prominent session on energy security in New York on Tuesday, where he pressed for a wider India-US energy partnership.
The gathering, jointly organised by the Consulate General of India in New York, also featured Parliamentarian Anurag Thakur.
As per the Consulate General’s X updates, Goyal underlined the potential to strengthen nuclear energy ties affordably, promoted renewable start-up growth, and called for worldwide collaboration to guarantee a secure, sustainable energy future.
He also highlighted the role of India’s integrated grid in delivering uninterrupted electricity.
He reiterated Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of One Sun, One World, One Grid, showcasing India’s leadership in solar advancement, the International Solar Alliance, and the nation’s achievements in renewable deployment.
His remarks highlighted India’s commitment to growth that is sustainable, inclusive, and affordable.
Expanding Bilateral Energy Ties
On Monday, Goyal met US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer to work toward the first stage of a trade understanding.
Sources familiar with discussions mentioned that both representatives focused on easing long-standing hurdles, with optimism over finalising an initial agreement shortly.
These negotiations followed earlier consultations in Delhi between India’s chief trade negotiator Rajesh Agrawal and Brendan Lynch, the US Assistant Trade Representative for South and Central Asia.
Meanwhile, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, also in New York for the UN General Assembly, engaged with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio. Rubio described India as ‘vital’ to America’s outlook and welcomed active trade discussions.
Jaishankar shared on X that the dialogue spanned bilateral and global matters, reaffirming that consistent engagement remains essential to advancing shared priorities.
However, these progresses come as Washington shifts immigration policies. The Trump administration recently restricted the H-1B visa programme.
Trump announced a $100,000 fee per new H-1B last week, while DHS proposed a weighted selection system prioritising top-skilled applicants on Tuesday.
While adapting to evolving trade and immigration measures, India continues to push for greater energy collaboration with the United States, bolstering its stance as a pivotal global partner.
