PM Modi Commends Rescue Forces Amid Severe Monsoon Devastation

In the 125th edition of his radio programme Mann Ki Baat, Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the nation on the alarming impact of the 2025 monsoon, which has wreaked havoc across several Indian states.

From the northern reaches of Jammu and Kashmir to southern regions including Karnataka and Maharashtra, the country has witnessed widespread destruction due to torrential rains, landslides, flash floods, and rising river levels.

“This monsoon season, natural disasters have tested the strength of our nation,” PM Modi remarked. “We have seen homes torn apart, agricultural fields completely submerged, and families devastated. Floodwaters have destroyed roads and bridges, placing countless lives at risk.”

He expressed grief and said every Indian deeply feels the suffering of affected families.

“We all share the pain of those who lost their loved ones,” he added.

Honouring Heroes on the Ground

PM Modi extended heartfelt thanks to the brave personnel of the Indian Armed Forces, National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), as well as local volunteers, social workers, and doctors who worked tirelessly during the crisis.

He praised their dedication to rescuing stranded citizens, often under life-threatening conditions.

“Wherever there was danger, our soldiers, NDRF and SDRF teams were present. Using technology such as thermal cameras, live detectors, drones, and sniffer dogs, they sped up rescue and relief operations,” he said.

Helicopters were deployed to deliver essential relief materials and to airlift the injured to safety.

PM Modi acknowledged the coordinated efforts of local administrations and civil society, saying, “I wholeheartedly thank every citizen who stood up in the face of this crisis and gave priority to humanity.”

The Prime Minister noted that the integration of technology into rescue operations marked a significant advancement. He stressed that India must continue to enhance its disaster preparedness as the frequency and intensity of climate-related disasters increase.

As India grapples with the aftermath of the monsoon’s fury, PM Modi called for unity and continued vigilance. He reassured the nation that the government will provide necessary support to those affected and has already begun rebuilding efforts.

This address served as both a tribute to the courage of India’s rescue teams and a reminder of the importance of collective effort during times of natural calamity.
