The PIB Fact Check unit has dismissed reports claiming that the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare issued a warning against popular Indian snacks like samosas, jalebi, and laddoo.
Several media outlets reported that the Health Ministry advised against consuming these items. However, the PIB Fact Check confirmed that these claims are false. The Ministry has not issued any warning labels targeting specific Indian foods.

Advisory Encourages Healthy Choices
According to the Press Information Bureau, the actual advisory serves as a general nudge. It urges people to be mindful of hidden fats and excessive sugar in all food items.
The Ministry’s message promotes healthier workplace habits and food choices. It does not single out or discourage the consumption of traditional Indian street food.
No Attack on Street Food Culture
Officials clarified that the advisory does not target India’s rich and diverse street food culture. It simply encourages individuals to make informed dietary decisions.
The PIB Fact Check team reiterated that the advisory is broad in scope. It aims to improve public health by raising awareness, not by criticising specific snacks.
The Ministry of Health continues to support initiatives that help citizens make healthier lifestyle choices without vilifying cultural food practices.
