India Rebukes Pakistan At UNSC For Deflecting From Human Rights Abuses & Sponsoring Terror

India criticized Pakistan at the UN for misusing a debate to divert attention from its own human rights violations and terrorism links.

India issued a scathing response to Pakistan at the United Nations Security Council, accusing Islamabad of misusing an open debate on Children and Armed Conflict (CAC) to push a misleading narrative and divert focus from its own ongoing human rights violations and support for terrorism.

India’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador Parvathaneni Harish, delivered the rebuttal, denouncing Pakistan’s remarks as an attempt to hijack the UNSC platform for its ‘nefarious agenda’ and smear campaign against India.

“Pakistan is casting unwarranted aspersions over UN processes and also smearing India at various discussions to pursue its nefarious agenda. We reject this attempt by Pakistan to deflect attention from the atrocities committed against children in their country, as highlighted in the Secretary-General’s report, as well as their rampant cross-border terrorism,” Harish stated.

Ambassador Harish described Pakistan as a major violator of the CAC mandate, pointing to internal abuses and the harmful effects of its military activities near the Afghanistan border, which have led to child casualties from cross-border shelling and airstrikes.

Referencing the April 22 terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, that left 26 Indian tourists dead, the Ambassador underscored the global recognition of the incident’s gravity.

“The world has not forgotten the savage targeted attacks by Pakistani and Pakistani-trained terrorists,” he said, citing the Security Council’s 25 April statement calling for accountability for those involved.

Reaffirming India’s zero-tolerance policy on terrorism, Harish highlighted India’s retaliatory actions on 7 May under Operation Sindoor, which targeted nine terrorist infrastructure sites.

He noted the state funerals held in Pakistan for those killed, further pointing to state involvement in terrorism.

Violations against children highlighted

Harish also drew attention to the UN Secretary-General’s recent findings on violations against children in Pakistan, including attacks on girls’ schools and health workers, and violence in Afghan border areas linked to Pakistani military actions.

“The Secretary-General has expressed concern at the rise in such grave violations reported, including attacks against schools, particularly girls’ schools, against health workers, and about the incidents in the border areas with Afghanistan, where a series of killing and maiming of Afghan children was directly attributed to cross-border shelling and air strikes by Pakistani armed forces,” Harish asserted.

Condemning the Pakistani military’s shelling of Indian border villages in May 2025, which caused civilian casualties, Harish called out the hypocrisy of Islamabad’s international rhetoric.

“To preach at this body after such behaviour is grossly hypocritical,” he asserted.

Concluding his address, Harish reaffirmed India’s position on Jammu and Kashmir.

“The entire union territory of Jammu and Kashmir has been, is, and will always be an integral and inalienable part of India, irrespective of the frequent, incessant spate of lies and falsehoods by Pakistan,” he remarked.
