In a dramatic turn of events at Naini Central Jail, a surprise inspection by DIG Jail Rajesh Srivastava on Tuesday evening led to the recovery of cash and unauthorised items from the high-security cell of Ali Ahmed, the second son of jailed mafia don Atiq Ahmed.
The discovery caused immediate uproar within the prison administration.
In response to the serious breach, DIG Srivastava and Senior Jail Superintendent Rang Bahadur Patel took swift action.
Authorities immediately suspended the Deputy Jailer and a prison warder for allegedly enabling the entry of cash and banned items into the high-security zone.
The suspension reflects growing concerns over the influence and operations of criminal networks within prison walls.
Security breach raises tough questions
The presence of cash and contraband inside a high-security facility has raised critical questions about the effectiveness of the jail’s surveillance and the integrity of its staff.

The raid is part of a broader crackdown on the IS-227 gang linked to Atiq Ahmed, following the high-profile Umesh Pal murder case.
In the aftermath, authorities launched an aggressive operation targeting Atiq’s gang members, associates, and family.
Authorities have jailed over 200 individuals linked to the gang, placing them in various prisons across Uttar Pradesh.
Authorities have lodged Ali, Atiq’s second son, in Naini Central Jail, and placed the eldest, Umar, in Lucknow Jail.
Police killed the third son, Asad, in an encounter. The two younger sons, Ahzam and Aban, are still attending school.
Officials state that despite relocating many associates to different jails across Uttar Pradesh, Naini Jail continues to house over 60 gang members.
The incident at Naini further underscores the ongoing influence that mafia families continue to exert within the prison system, even under high-security confinement.
Authorities have vowed to strengthen oversight mechanisms and prevent any recurrence of such lapses.
