A major governance crisis has emerged at Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) as Vice Chancellor faces serious allegations of conflict of interest involving the appointment of his wife to a university post.

The controversy centres around claims that the Vice Chancellor presided over the very selection committee that considered his wife’s candidacy- an act widely viewed as a violation of Central Civil Services (Conduct) Rules and University Grants Commission (UGC) regulations.
These rules prohibit any public official from making decisions involving immediate family members, particularly in matters of recruitment.
Bypassing Procedural Safeguards
Court filings and sources close to the proceedings suggest that officials allegedly bypassed procedural safeguards to push through the appointment, prompting accusations of administrative overreach and ethical misconduct.
