Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Tuesday launched a sharp attack on Opposition parties over their silence regarding the ongoing communal violence in West Bengal’s Murshidabad.
Speaking at a public event in Hardoi, he accused them of engaging in ‘appeasement politics’ and ignoring the plight of Hindus affected during protests against the Waqf Act.
‘Selective Outrage’ & Appeasement Politics
Addressing a large crowd at the Amar Senani Raja Narpati Singh Memorial site, CM Yogi said, “Those who create unrest and incite violence, their only treatment is with the danda (stick). You’ve all seen how West Bengal is burning, yet the Chief Minister there remains silent.”

Referring to the violence in Murshidabad, he accused the West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee of protecting disruptive elements.
“She calls the protesters ‘peace bearers’, but those who deserve a danda cannot be handled with words,” he said.
He further accused the state government of allowing lawless behaviour to thrive under the guise of secularism.
Violence In Murshidabad & Court Intervention
“Murshidabad has been burning for a week, yet the state government chooses to stay quiet. Such intolerance cannot be accepted in a democratic society,” he declared, questioning the silence of the national media and political opponents.
<p>CM Yogi also thanked the judiciary for deploying Central security forces and ensuring the safety of Hindu residents. “I express my gratitude to the court for standing by the people when others failed,” he added.
Criticism Of Congress & SP
In his speech, CM Yogi didn’t spare national Opposition parties either.
“Congress is silent on Murshidabad. So is the Samajwadi Party. These are the same people who supported unrest in Bangladesh. It seems they would rather be in Bangladesh than in India—why be a burden here?” he said, drawing applause from the audience.
<h3>Support For The Waqf Amendment Bill
He also took the opportunity to praise the Centre for amending the Waqf Act, calling it a necessary step toward justice.
<p>“I am indebted to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah for passing the Waqf Amendment Bill. It’s a significant move to return land that was unjustly taken from the poor.”
On Sunday, CM Yogi had also highlighted that Hindus were targeted in Bengal. Among them were Dalit communities. These communities will likely benefit the most from the Waqf Act reforms.
<p>His remarks in Hardoi reiterated the BJP’s broader narrative of religious justice and rule of law.
