PM Modi celebrates 10 years of Mudra Yojna

PM Narendra Modi marked the 10th anniversary of the Pradhan Mantri Mudra Yojana (PMMY) on Tuesday, celebrating the transformative impact of the scheme on millions of small businesses and entrepreneurs across India.

The Prime Minister congratulated the beneficiaries, calling the initiative a catalyst for turning dreams into reality for countless individuals.

PM Modi took to social media to celebrate the 10 years of the scheme.

Taking to X, Prime Minister Modi posted, “To mark #10YearsOfMUDRA, I had invited Mudra beneficiaries from all over India to my residence. They shared fascinating insights on how this scheme has transformed their lives. Do watch the interaction in a short while from now, at 9 AM.”

PM Modi Celebrates 10 Yrs Of Mudra Scheme

Since its launch in April 2015, the Mudra Yojana has supported more than 52 crore loans, totaling Rs 32.61 lakh crore, fueling a nationwide entrepreneurial revolution.

The scheme has been particularly successful in reaching small towns and villages, offering opportunities to first-time entrepreneurs who may have been previously overlooked by traditional financial systems.

Prime Minister Modi expressed pride in the achievements of the Mudra scheme, emphasizing its role in providing financial inclusion, social inclusion, and economic freedom.

“Every Mudra loan carries with it dignity, self-respect, and opportunity,” PM Modi said, highlighting the broad societal impact of the initiative.

Key Aspects Of Mudra Scheme

A key aspect of the Mudra scheme’s success is its focus on empowering marginalized communities.

PM Modi noted that half of the beneficiaries belong to Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST), and Other Backward Classes (OBC), and more than 70% of the recipients are women.

The scheme has been pivotal in breaking down barriers to credit access, particularly for those who historically had limited opportunities to secure financial support.

Mudra Scheme: A Platform For Women Entrepreneurs

Women have been a major focus of PMMY, with 68% of beneficiaries being female.

The scheme has significantly advanced women-led enterprises, offering both financial support and a platform for them to showcase their entrepreneurial skills.

Between FY16 and FY25, the per-woman disbursement amount grew at a Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) of 13%, reaching Rs 62,679. Similarly, incremental deposits per woman grew at a CAGR of 14%, reaching Rs 95,269.

These figures demonstrate the effectiveness of targeted financial inclusion in driving economic empowerment for women and increasing their participation in the workforce.

States with higher disbursement to women have seen notable growth in employment generation through women-led MSMEs.

Breaking Traditional Credit Barriers

The Mudra Yojana has played a critical role in breaking traditional credit barriers, particularly for micro-enterprises.

The scheme provides collateral-free loans up to Rs 20 lakh through various Member Lending Institutions (MLIs) such as Scheduled Commercial Banks, Regional Rural Banks, Non-Banking Financial Companies (NBFCs), and Micro Finance Institutions (MFIs).

These loans have enabled millions of entrepreneurs to start or expand businesses, from stitching units and tea stalls to salons, mechanic shops, and mobile repair ventures.

Inclusive Growth And the Road Ahead

PMMY has not only supported small-scale businesses but also contributed to inclusive growth by facilitating access to formal credit for minority communities.

According to reports, 11% of Mudra loan holders belong to minority communities, reinforcing the scheme’s role in enhancing economic participation among marginalized groups.

As the scheme celebrates its 10th anniversary, PM Modi reflected on the transformative power of trust and opportunity, stating, “For the people of India, nothing is impossible.”

With more than a decade of success, the Mudra Yojana continues to empower India’s grassroots entrepreneurs, fostering a new era of financial inclusion and economic growth.
