Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with the United States’ Director of National Intelligence (DNI), Tulsi Gabbard, in New Delhi on Monday evening.
During the meeting, PM Modi presented her with a special vase containing Jal (holy water) from the recently concluded Maha Kumbh in Prayagraj.
Gabbard’s visit to India is part of a broader multi-nation tour.
Her Asia itinerary will conclude with an address at the Raisina Dialogue on 18 March, a global security forum in Delhi, where she was invited by PM Modi.
Earlier in the day, Tulsi Gabbard held discussions with Defence Minister Rajnath Singh.
The talks covered various security concerns, including India’s objections to the activities of the banned Khalistani group Sikhs for Justice (SFJ) in the US.
According to sources, India urged the US to take stringent action against the outlawed organization, designated as an unlawful association in India.
The discussions also covered key areas of defence cooperation and intelligence-sharing between the two nations.
Tulsi Gabbard’s visit follows PM Modi’s trip to the US in February this year.
During their meeting, PM Modi praised Gabbard as a ‘strong advocate’ of India-US relations, while she described the interaction as an ‘honour’ and reaffirmed her commitment to enhancing bilateral ties.
As part of her engagements in India, Tulsi Gabbard will also participate in a keynote discussion with Samir Saran, President of the Observer Research Foundation (ORF).
The Ministry of External Affairs and ORF are jointly organizing the 10th edition of the Raisina Dialogue.
