Arvind Kejriwal, the national convenor of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), has written to the Chief Election Officer (CEO) of Delhi, expressing concern over alleged attacks on his party workers in the New Delhi Assembly constituency.
The allegations come just days before the Delhi Assembly elections scheduled for February 5.
Kejriwal’s Letter Highlights Claims By AAP
Kejriwal’s letter highlights claims by AAP that its workers are being targeted and assaulted by “goons” allegedly linked to Parvesh Verma, the BJP candidate from the New Delhi Assembly constituency. AAP also alleges that a female worker from their party was harassed during one of these incidents.
In his letter, Kejriwal called for the deployment of independent election observers in the New Delhi area to prevent further attacks. He also requested the Election Commission to take immediate steps to ensure the safety and security of AAP volunteers working in the region.
Furthermore, Kejriwal demanded that strict action be taken against those responsible for the alleged violence, specifically pointing to BJP workers involved in the attacks.
Arvind Kejriwal Calls For Police Suspension Request
In addition to his concerns over the attacks, Kejriwal has called for the immediate suspension of police personnel deployed in the New Delhi area for failing to act during the incidents. AAP Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh also raised similar concerns, accusing the police of inaction and neglecting their duty.
Incident At Chelmsford Club Slum
The allegations were further detailed by Sanjay Singh, who claimed that AAP workers were attacked on February 1 in the Chelmsford Club slum area in New Delhi.
Singh stated that individuals wearing BJP sashes and caps, allegedly connected to Verma, physically assaulted AAP workers Gaurav Singh, Suresh Acharya, and Pranali Rawat. Singh added that Rawat was also harassed during the incident.
According to Singh, when the police arrived on the scene, they refused to intervene against the alleged attackers. He further claimed that the on-site officers admitted that they had been instructed by the Station House Officer (SHO) not to take any action against Verma’s supporters. Singh has called for the suspension of the SHO in light of these allegations.
