Apple has unveiled the HomeView, a $299 smart display designed to bring Siri AI, video calls, personal updates and smart home controls into one device, marking a major expansion of its home technology offering.

The device features a compact screen mounted on a speaker base and will launch in eight countries, including India, the UK, the US and Australia.

Pre-orders are open, with shipments scheduled to begin on November 13. A wall-mounted version is available for $299.

HomeView can function as a smart home hub, Matter controller and Thread Border Router, allowing users to manage compatible connected devices.

Apple’s broader smart home push includes cameras, thermostats and a door lock.

Siri AI enables users to ask questions, control household devices and access information through natural language.

When paired with an eligible iPhone on the same Wi-Fi network, facial recognition can display personalised messages, calendar events and emails. The device supports up to six profiles.

Users can follow recipes, make FaceTime calls using Centre Stage, view HomeKit Secure Video feeds and customise the display with photos, clocks, widgets and smart home controls.

The aluminium-bodied device features a Liquid Retina display with True Tone and comes in silver, starlight, rose pink and space grey. Its audio system includes two drivers, a woofer and two passive radiators.

Apple apps such as Calendar, Reminders, Messages and Music are supported, alongside selected third-party audio services, including Spotify and Audible.

The wall-mounted model offers plug-in, in-wall power and Power over Ethernet installation options.

Questions, however, remain over how reliably HomeView will recognise household members and switch between profiles.

Authentication requirements could affect convenience, while limited video app support may restrict its appeal.

Ultimately, HomeView’s success will depend on whether households embrace a shared screen for personal tasks and everyday smart home management.
