The third and final phase of Jammu and Kashmir Assembly elections, covering 40 constituencies, witnessed high voter enthusiasm, with a 60.1% turnout recorded by 3 p.m. on Tuesday. The figure is expected to surpass previous phases.
Polling began at 7 a.m. across 5,060 stations, with voters showing up in large numbers despite varying weather conditions. Special polling stations were arranged for Kashmiri migrant voters.
High Voter Enthusiasm Across Regions
In Jammu division, voters donned traditional attire and displayed a festive spirit at polling stations in districts like Kathua, Samba, and Udhampur. In the Kashmir Valley, men gathered at stations in areas such as Tangmarg, Uri, and Pattan.
The highest turnout was recorded in Chhamb (68.31%), followed by Akhnoor (66.27%) and Gurez (66.17%). Sopore saw the lowest turnout at 34.21%.
Security and Polling Arrangements
Authorities ensured smooth polling with heavy security deployment. Special care was provided for elderly and infirm voters, with stories like a 106-year-old woman in Ramgarh casting her vote.
Polling will conclude at 6 p.m., and the counting of votes is set for October 8.
