Floods in the Ganga and Yamuna rivers have left hundreds of families homeless in Prayagraj. On Tuesday, around 120 families sought shelter in relief camps set up by the administration. The water level began to decrease in the evening, offering some relief. However, many houses remain submerged, with over one lakh people affected in the district. More than 6,000 individuals from 915 families have requested help, and 1,640 people are currently housed in seven relief camps across the city.
Residents report severe damage. Mohd. Shamim from Bailey Kachar said his home and belongings are completely underwater. Nandini of Chhota Baghada salvaged some essentials, while Devi stored goods on her roof to protect them from theft.
Water Levels Stabilize, Power Cut to Prevent Accidents
The water levels of the Ganga and Yamuna are now stabilizing. The Ganga’s water level in Phaphamau is at 83.94 meters, down by six centimeters. In Chhatnag, it is 82.83 meters. The Yamuna’s water level stands at 83.69 meters. Earlier, water levels had been rising, but they are now decreasing.
To prevent accidents, electricity has been cut in several affected areas. The administration continues to provide food and support to those in the relief camps and to residents trapped by the floods.
