Vijayawada, Aug 30: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu ordered an investigation on Friday after authorities discovered a hidden camera in the washroom of a women’s hostel at an engineering college in Krishna Nagar district. The incident has sparked widespread outrage among students and the public.
Naidu directed District Minister Kollu Ravindra, the District Collector, and the Superintendent of Police to visit the college and oversee the investigation.
Police Launch Investigation Team
The Krishna district police formed a special team to investigate the incident. District Superintendent of Police Gangadhar Rao appointed Gudivada Crime Police Station Circle Inspector Ramanamma as the inquiry officer. The team, including five technical experts, began their investigation by visiting the girls’ hostel at Gudlavalleru Engineering College.
The police assured students they would use advanced tools, including a Non-Linear Junction Detector (NLJD), to search for any hidden cameras on the premises. The SP urged students to cooperate and share any information they may have.
Students Protest, Demand Action
Students launched protests late Thursday night, which continued on Friday. The ABVP supported the protests and demanded immediate action against those responsible. Education Minister Nara Lokesh ordered an inquiry and promised strict action against the culprits.
Police detained a final-year student for questioning after allegations surfaced that he circulated videos recorded through the hidden camera. They seized his mobile phone and laptop as part of the investigation. Students claimed the issue was known for a week, but the college management failed to act.
