Diwali celebrations are incomplete without sweets, and chocolate often tops children’s festive wish lists. Instead of buying packaged treats, families can prepare homemade desserts together. These five recipes require simple ingredients and let children participate in stirring, rolling and decorating.

1. Crunchy Chocolate Bites

Melt 150 g of chocolate and mix it with one cup of puffed rice or cornflakes and two tablespoons of chopped almonds or raisins. Spoon the mixture into mini cupcake liners, add sprinkles and refrigerate for 30 minutes. This recipe makes approximately 12 crunchy treats.

2. Date and Cocoa Truffles

Blend 10 soft, pitted dates with two tablespoons each of cocoa powder and ground almonds or oats, plus a pinch of cinnamon. Roll the mixture into small balls and coat them with desiccated coconut or crushed pistachios. Refrigerate for 20 minutes. These truffles contain no added sugar.

3. Chocolate-Stuffed Dates

Fill eight to 10 pitted dates with almonds, walnut pieces or nut butter. Dip each date halfway into 100 g of melted chocolate. Sprinkle with sesame seeds or coconut and refrigerate for 20 minutes.

4. Chocolate Oats Ladoo

Dry-roast one cup of rolled oats and grind them coarsely. Mix with two tablespoons of cocoa powder, three tablespoons of peanut or almond butter, and three tablespoons of honey, maple syrup or jaggery syrup. Add milk if needed, shape into ladoos and chill for 30 minutes.

5. Creamy Chocolate Chia Pudding

Whisk three tablespoons of chia seeds with one cup of milk, 1.5 tablespoons of cocoa powder, one to two tablespoons of maple syrup and a drop of vanilla. Whisk again after 10 minutes and refrigerate for at least two hours. Serve with banana slices and crushed nuts.
