In Uttar Pradesh, Prayagraj has emerged as the second-highest city, following Lucknow, for the number of unauthorized buses operating without proper documentation.

The state records show that out of 49,186 buses with fitness certificates and valid insurance, a staggering 13,661 buses are running without these necessary certifications.

Lucknow leads the list with 773 buses on its roads lacking valid registration, fitness certificates, and insurance.

Prayagraj follows closely with 723 unauthorized buses, and Varanasi ranks third with 687 buses operating unlawfully.

Chief Secretary Manoj Kumar Singh has addressed the issue by sending a letter to commissioners, district magistrates, and Regional Transport Officers (RTOs) across all districts, urging immediate and effective action against these unauthorized buses.

Ghaziabad ranks fourth, with 630 out of 2,510 buses operating without proper documentation.

Gautam Buddh Nagar (Noida) is fifth, with 539 out of 4,196 buses unauthorized.

The overall situation is critical, with valid registrations, fitness, and insurance for only 49,186 buses across 75 districts.

The problem extends to school vehicles as well.

Out of 44,790 school vehicles in the state, 12,520 are deemed unfit.

Varanasi tops this category with 914 out of 2,223 school vehicles operating without proper fitness.

Azamgarh is second, with 552 out of 1,316 school vehicles found to be unfit.

Prayagraj ranks 11th, with 330 out of 987 school vehicles lacking valid documentation.

Rajiv Chaturvedi, Assistant Regional Transport Officer (ARTO) Administration, announced the ongoing campaign against unauthorized buses and unfit school vehicles.

Meanwhile, the campaign is likely to intensify with the support of the police administration, aiming to rectify this widespread issue.

The prevalence of unauthorized buses and unfit school vehicles in Uttar Pradesh is a significant concern, with major cities like Lucknow, Prayagraj, and Varanasi leading in numbers.
