Serving a notice Delhi HC seeks response from Delhi police in regard of a petition filed by political prisoner Umar Khalid. Umar Khalid is alleged accused of Delhi riots.
The court is scheduled to entertain the case on August 29 next. Khalid reached Delhi High Court following the rejection of bail plea in the Karkardooma Court on May 28. During the hearing on the bail plea filed in the lower court, Khalid’s lawyer had said that the Delhi Police is using Khalid’s name in the charge sheet as if it was a mantra.
“Taking the name repeatedly in the charge sheet and lying will not prove any fact to be true,” said Umar Khalid’s lawyer. Petitioner’s lawyer expressed his concern over the media trial against Khalid

Citing the case of Vernor Gonsalves and Shobha Sen in the Bhima Koregaon case, petitioner’s lawyer demanded for examination of every document and witness.
Countering the prosecution, the Special Public Prosecutor maintained that integrity of investigative agencies can not be countered.
Notably, Umar Khalid had withdrawn his bail petition from the Supreme Court and said that now he will file a petition in the trial court. Khalid was arrested under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act in connection with the alleged larger conspiracy behind the 2020 Delhi riots.
Khalid has been booked under Sections 13, 16, 17, and 18 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967, Sections 25 and 27 of the Arms Act, 1959, and Sections 3 and 4 of the Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act, 1984.
